🔶 Jaafar Panhi was sentenced to five years and one month in prison and confiscation of all property.

Mustafa Neely, the lawyer of Jaafar Panhi, an Iranian filmmaker and winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, announced the imposition of a sentence of five years and one month in prison and the confiscation of all his client's movable and immovable property by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

He also announced that Panhai was sentenced to a two-year ban on leaving the country and a two-year ban on social networks.

Referring to the proceedings of his client's legal cases, Neely said that Panchi noticed that his bank accounts were blocked last week and after referring to the execution of the rulings of the Culture and Media Attorney's Office, it was found that an absent warrant was issued against him in another case.

According to this lawyer, while Panhi returned to Iran on March 30 during the 40-day war, his court file still said he was outside the country. Neely said: "Last week my client announced that his bank accounts were blocked and after we referred to the implementation of the rulings of the Culture and Media Attorney's Office, it became clear to us that he was convicted in absentia in another case.
