🔶 An arrest warrant was issued for the head of the district council of Maysan in Iraq.
On Monday, October 26 (Aban 4), a court in Baghdad ordered the arrest of Mustafa Deir Abdulhassan, the head of the Maysan Provincial Council in Iraq.
His charge is a threat of civil disobedience in an interception to close the Al-Shayib border crossing with Iran.
Abdul Hassan was among the protesters in Maysan on Sunday and said that if the al-Shayib crossing was not reopened by Thursday, he would declare "civil disobedience" and "separate Maysan from the rest of Iraq."
In response, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered an investigation into these statements and accused his prime minister's office of "using inappropriate language."
After the official complaint by the Prime Minister's Office, the court in Baghdad issued an arrest warrant for Abdul Hassan.
This incident is a new example of the ongoing conflict between Iraq's central government, armed Shiite groups affiliated with Iran, and American pressure. Abdulhasan is a member of Gush Sedjun, the political wing of Assib Ahl al-Haq, one of the most armed Shiite groups affiliated with Iran, led by Qais al-Khazali.
