The European Union took Lula's victory as a good sign.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union Commission, congratulated the victory of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the presidential elections of Brazil.
He wrote on the X social network that "democracy and multilateralism won" in these elections.
Ms von der Leyen promised that the EU and Brazil would continue to work closely together on free trade, the international rules-based order and climate protection.
This position is not accidental. Lula is a known critic of Donald Trump, and his victory over Flavio Bolsonaro means Brussels remains a reliable partner in Latin America's biggest economy.
Bolsonaro's faction promised in its campaign to bring Brazil closer to the policies of the Trump administration.
German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes also congratulated Lula and emphasized the deepening of the "strategic rocket" between Berlin and Brasilia.
