🔶 Reuters reports on Myanmar's strategy for violating sanctions and buying Iranian jet fuel.

In an exclusive report, Reuters has revealed the secret cooperation between the Myanmar government and the Salami Republic to circumvent sanctions and hide Myanmar's purchase of Iranian jet fuel.

According to Reuters, in December 2025, the reef tanker, which is under US sanctions, entered Myanmar waters with forged documents and was carrying about 113,000 barrels of fuel.

Energy broker "Dynamic View" based in Myanmar ordered this shipment and in the sales contract it concluded with the Thai company "Tawan-Oil Trading", apparently agreed to receive shipments of a similar volume from South African Diesel. But according to figures from the United Nations and the Vortexa Energy and Shipping Data Institute, that $15.8 million deal was a fraud because no fuel trade will take place between South Africa and Myanmar in 2025. In fact, based on fuel shipment documents, satellite images and analyzes by Cinemax Modiin, which traced the route of this tanker from Bandar Abbas to Southeast Asia, the Rif tanker was carrying jet fuel from Iran to Myanmar.

This concealment was necessary because the United States imposed targeted sanctions against Myanmar's jet fuel industry in 2023. Washington took this action citing the Myanmar military's deadly bombings of civilian targets in order to suppress the rebels. In addition, all buyers of Iranian oil and fuel are also exposed to extensive US sanctions.
