🔶 Lula became president of Brazil for the fourth time; Bolsonaro did not accept the defeat.

According to election officials, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been elected to a fourth term as president of Brazil. In the second round of the elections, he managed to defeat Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of Jair Bolsonaro, the former president and far-right of Brazil, and remained in office.

Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for an attempted coup and is currently under house arrest for medical reasons.

According to the statistics of the Supreme Electoral Court, Lula won 51.8% and Belsonaro won 48.2% of the votes.

Surveys show that the unexpected and high participation of the people in the elections paved the way for victory for Lula.

Bolsonaro refused to accept his defeat against Lula. This protesting candidate announced in Brasilia, the capital of this country: "It is impossible to accept this result. I will file a request to cancel this election. Bolsonaro cited the Supreme Court's "last-minute decision" to extend the voting time by two hours and called the decision "unprecedented."

Both candidates previously asked to extend the voting time in several areas. The reason for this request was the disruption of public transportation as well as severe weather conditions in certain parts of the country. However, Bolsonaro's headquarters only asked to extend voting hours for some states where heavy rains, floods and power outages were likely to disrupt the election process.

Cassio Nunes Marques, head of the electoral court appointed to the Supreme Court under Jair Bolsonaro, clarified that the extension of the voting period has no effect on the final result.
