🔶 The Pentagon has declared Chinese Confucius Institutes at American universities a "national security threat".
On Friday (October 23), US Defense Secretary Pete Heggest announced that the Pentagon had placed the Confucius Institutes, Chinese-funded cultural and educational centers at American universities, on the list of institutions that threaten national security.
According to Reuters, he claimed that these institutions continued their activities in American universities by changing their names and legal structure.
In a video he posted on social media, Hegset said that Ministry of Defense research showed that dozens of centers affiliated with the Confucius Institute network are operating with new identities at American universities.
He claimed: "80 new propaganda cores have been established in 30 universities, with different names and laws, but with the same previous mission, stealing intellectual property and infiltrating the minds of American students." The US Secretary of Defense described these centers as part of China's infiltration network and said that changing their name and form of activity did not change their main goals.
