🔶 Protest of thousands of people in Turkey to suppress the media and arrested journalists.

Thousands of journalists, human rights activists and representatives of opposition parties to the Turkish government demonstrated in Istanbul and Ankara against what they describe as increasing pressure on independent media by the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to the AFP news agency, these rallies were held in response to the new wave of arrested journalists, the closing of the media and the appointment of government administrators to run news networks.

According to Turkish police, at least 3,000 people gathered in the Asian part of Istanbul and held up pictures of jailed journalists and chanted against the restrictions on press publication. The protesters shouted: "We can't breathe anymore."

They also called for an end to the security meetings with journalists with the slogans "You will not silence us", "Dee dee" and "We will not give in to pressure". The participants in these gatherings were mainly journalists, members of human rights organizations and representatives of opposition parties.
