Grossi: The agency is ready to verify Iran's nuclear activities.
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA announced that this institution has completed most of the technical measures necessary to verify Iran's nuclear activity and is ready to begin this process.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York, Grossi said: "Most of the technical work needed to ensure proper verification of the activities in Iran has been done and the agency is ready."
The IAEA Director General also expressed hope that the negotiations between Tehran and Washington will progress with the mediation of countries including Pakistan, Qatar, Oman and Egypt.
Grossi said without reaching a diplomatic agreement, there will be no sustainable solution to Iran's nuclear issue. He emphasized that the implementation of any possible agreement requires verification by the IAEA.
Iran's nuclear facilities have been bombed many times during US attacks and Israeli occupation. Although these attacks destroyed or severely damaged the uranium enrichment facilities, it is believed that a large portion of the enriched uranium stockpile still remains; Including some 60% enriched uranium, which is technically not far from the 90% level required to make a nuclear weapon.
The IAEA failed to monitor Iran's nuclear activities after the US and Israeli hostage attacks on this country. The international community demands that the monitoring and verification of Iran's nuclear program be renewed.
In his speech, Raphael Grossi mentioned the progress achieved in Syria and added that all of that country's nuclear materials are now under the supervision of the agency. The Director General of the IAEA expressed his hope that progress similar to that of Syria will be achieved in Iran's nuclear case.
