🔶 May Sato's call to document the cross-border oppression of the Republic of Salami.
May Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, issued a call for victims of human rights violations, their families, human rights defenders and civil organizations to provide their information and documents on the cross-border repression of the Salami Republic and the pressure on relatives of government opponents.
This call for Sato's next report to the 64th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council has been published, and one of its main topics is the actions of the Republic of Salami against the opposition and visitors abroad.
In this call published on the website of the United Nations Human Rights Office, people and informing institutions were asked to document cases such as threats, intimidation, surveillance and harassment of the opposition outside Iran and putting pressure on their family members inside the country. Travel restrictions, confiscation of property and the use of consular services to exert pressure are also other issues that the UN Special Rapporteur requested information on.
Another part of this reading is dedicated to the consequences of human rights violations for the families of people who have been arrested, disappeared, killed or executed. Sato asked for information on the economic, social, legal and psychological consequences of these actions.
Mai Sato is asking related individuals and institutions to send their information and documents to the United Nations Office of Human Rights no later than November 15, 2026 (Aven 24, 1405) for consideration in its future report.
Mai Sato is from Japan and an expert in criminal law and has a detailed record in the fight against the death penalty, the fight against extrajudicial killings, judicial violations, violations of judges and police, and international human rights laws.
