Austria expels four Russian diplomats.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria has announced that it will expel four Russian diplomats from this country due to activities that contradict their diplomatic status. This decision was taken in the context of Vienna's increased measures against possible Russian espionage activities.
According to a statement by the Austrian Foreign Ministry on Friday, October 23, three of the expelled diplomats worked at the Russian Embassy in Vienna, and the fourth was a member of the Russian delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria announced that these people carried out activities that are not compatible with their diplomatic status. For this reason, all four people were declared "undesirable persons" and must leave Austria.
According to this ministry, the decision on deportation was made based on the findings of the Austrian security institutions. However, the Austrian authorities did not provide further details on the reasons for this action. In this context, the Austrian news magazine "Profile" reported that these four diplomats are suspected of "espionage activity".
