🔶 Egypt and Greece rejected the approval of the maritime border agreement between Turkey and Libya.

The foreign ministers of Egypt and Greece announced on Thursday, October 22, their countries' opposition to the approval of the agreement to determine the maritime borders of Turkey and Libya in the Mediterranean Sea. On Tuesday, the Libyan parliament approved this agreement, which was signed in 2019.

Badr Abdel Atty, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, and Giorgos Graphatris, his Greek counterpart, emphasized compliance with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea approved in 1982 in determining the exclusive economic zones and the continental shelf.

According to the spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the two sides also agreed to continue the consultation on maritime borders based on the principles of fairness and international law.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the vote of the Libyan parliament does not change the "illegal, invalid and baseless" nature of this memorandum. Cyprus also condemned this decision.
