🔶 Consequences of the Iran War; Helium crisis and challenges for MRI equipment.
At a time when public opinion is mainly focused on oil and gas prices during the Iran War after seven months, in the shadow of this conflict, the industrial sector was under great pressure in supplying another equally important gas: helium.
Helium cannot be produced artificially. This gas is obtained as a byproduct of natural gas production. In this regard, Germany and the EU are almost completely dependent on an international supply chain.
According to the announcement of the German federal government in the official response to a parliamentary question in the Bundestag (the German parliament), during the last ten years, about 39% of Germany's helium imports came from Qatar, followed by the United States and Algeria with a share of 15% each.
