United Nations warning; The world is headed for 2.8 degrees of warming On Tuesday, October 20, the United Nations warned against the acceleration of the global warming process by publishing a report. According to this warning, the achievement of the main climate goals seems further away than ever. This situation could have devastating consequences for the world. Inger Andersen, director of the Nairobi-based United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), said even a small increase in temperature above the 1.5°C threshold could significantly increase the risk of deadly floods, extreme heat waves and massive wildfires. This year, several countries in the world faced such incidents. The international community has already agreed to limit the increase in the Earth's temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius to avoid the dire consequences of climate change. However, the current trend shows that achieving this goal faces serious challenges. The UN also estimated that even if all countries meet their commitments and announce plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Earth's average temperature will still be about 2.6 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels by the end of this century. This figure is not only far from the agreed goal of 1.5 arrivals, but also shows a worsening of the situation compared to last year's estimate. In the previous year's report, the amount of warming expected in the case of full implementation of the countries' obligations was expected to be a maximum of 2.5 degrees Celsius. According to the UN report, most of this decrease is due to the withdrawal of the United States from its obligations. The American government led by Donald Trump has moved away from the previous plans to deal with climate change and abandoned them. The authors of the report emphasized that since the United States is the second largest producer of greenhouse gases in the world after China, such political changes are directly reflected in global estimates and projections. Later in the report, it was stated that the data related to greenhouse gas emissions in recent years were also corrected and the data increased. This issue worsens the chance of global warming.
