🔶 The overwhelming vote of Alberta residents to remain in Canada; More than 76% oppose the separation.
Residents of the oil-rich province of Alberta in western Canada voted overwhelmingly to remain in the country. According to the initial results and after counting the votes of about 60% of the electoral districts, more than 76% of the voters opposed holding another binding referendum on the separation of this district from Canada. The final result will be published on October 29.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the vote and saw it as an opportunity to improve the country's conditions. Daniel Smith, Alberta's Conservative premier, also said people want a stronger province within a united Canada.
This non-binding referendum, in addition to the issue of secession, included nine other questions on immigration and the constitution and was held at the initiative of the provincial government.
