🔶 Gina Romero, the UN reporter, joins the hunger strike of prisoners in Iran for executions in Yorot.
Gina Paula Romero, UN special rapporteur for the release of a peaceful assembly and organization, announced that she will join the "No Execution Tuesdays" hunger strike campaign in solidarity with the Iranian prisoners.
Romero called for a moratorium on executions and for independent monitoring of the situation of prisoners facing death sentences. He also expressed concern about the situation of the detained protesters and their access to a fair trial.
Romero's explanation said that the death penalty in Iran is used against people who have exercised their rights to freedom of speech, peaceful assembly and political participation.
According to Romero, at least 46 protesters have been executed since March. There are also reports that thousands of people were killed during the interceptions in January 1404. These figures reflect Gina Romero's stated estimate and have not been independently verified here.
The "Don't Kill Tuesday" campaign is an interception movement involving prisoners that opposes the death penalty in Iran. Romero said that his participation in this campaign is done in order to express solidarity with the prisoners who risk their lives to oppose executions.
May Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, also mentioned Romero's statement and defined it as important.
This statement of position increases the scope of international attention and supervision towards the implementation of the death penalty in Iran and once again emphasizes the demand for more transparency, compliance with legal procedures and independent monitoring of death row cases.
