🔶 Criticism of "Silence" for the captives of the German publishers
Philip Sands, a prominent international jurist, received the prestigious Peace Prize of the German publishers and booksellers in 2026. In his speech, he severely criticized "Germany's silence" regarding the developments in Israel and Gaza.
At the end of the Frankfurt Book Fair on Sunday, October 11, the Peace Prize of the German Publishers and Booksellers was awarded to Philip Sands, French-British lawyer and author.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Germany, in the historic Paul Church.
The prize's foundation board described Sands, 65, a professor at the University of London, as a "committed humanitarian" who tirelessly defends human rights and "pursues justice".
The Peace Prize of German Publishers in the amount of 25,000 euros has been awarded since 1950 to prominent cultural and scientific figures who played a role in the realization of peace. Salman Rushdie was among the most prominent winners of this award in recent years.
