Mahmoud Abbas postponed the elections to the Palestinian parliament until 2027

Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Self-Government Organization, postponed holding the parliamentary elections until September next year; The elections that the international community has been calling for for a long time and were last held in 2006.

The official Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) announced that Abbas postponed the parliamentary elections to September 11, 2027 in a new order. These elections were previously set for November 28, 2026, and the Palestinian presidential elections were also supposed to be held in early 2027. According to the new decision, the parliamentary and presidential elections are now supposed to be held at the same time.

In a statement published by Wafa, Abbas' office announced the reason for postponing the elections as "obstacles imposed by the actions of Israeli prisoners". In this statement, it was stated that these measures prevent elections from being held at the appointed time and that appropriate political, security and territorial conditions must be provided for "free, fair and inclusive" elections.
