Hundreds of thousands of people are without power in Alabama and the Florida panhandle after Hurricane Isias hits the Gulf Coast; A storm moving inland with strong winds, heavy rain and widespread flooding. Isias made landfall near Destin, Florida on Friday, October 9 (October 17) as the first hurricane of the Atlantic season.

When this hurricane came ashore, it was a Category 2 hurricane and its strong winds battered the Gulf of Mexico coastline; A low-lying area known for its white sand beaches, holiday homes, waterfront bars and seafood restaurants.

In Destin, roads were flooded, and in the nearby city of Pensacola, police asked people to avoid traffic due to debris and roadblocks.

Several counties in Florida's Panhandle temporarily suspended emergency operations Friday evening due to hazardous conditions.
