Basant: America wants complete economic exclusion of Iran; The possibility of confiscating a billion dollars of cryptocurrency
Scott Bessant, the US Treasury Secretary, says Donald Trump's administration intends to completely isolate Iran by expanding economic pressures and transportation restrictions. He announced the possibility of confiscating $1 billion in crypto assets linked to Iran.
On October 8 (October 16), at the Newsmax network's policy meeting in Washington, Bessant said that the US government had changed from a policy of maximum pressure on Iran to what he called a "total economic exclusion campaign".
The US Treasury Secretary claimed that this campaign targets the Iranian government's access to international markets, financial resources and transportation routes. According to him, Washington's actions include sea, air and land restrictions and its aim is to stop Iran's oil exports and increase pressure on the government and the Revolutionary Guards.
Referring to the cooperation of regional countries in the recent military tensions and attacks on Iran, Basant said: "The United Arab Emirates has been a good partner. Oman was a good partner. "We are working with Pakistan and Turkey to close all land routes."
