The Ethiopian government announced that the forces of Eritrea, Ethiopia's neighboring country in East Africa and located on the coast of the Red Sea, entered Ethiopia's territory up to a distance of up to 60 kilometers. The Ethiopian government emphasized its right to defend the country in its speech to the UN Security Council; A development that increased fears of the renewal of the massive conflict between the two countries.

The Ethiopian government requested the support of the United Nations after reports were published about the arrival of Eritrean military forces in the north of the country. Gideon Timotheus, Ethiopia's foreign minister, announced in his letter to the Security Council that Eritrean forces had advanced up to 60 kilometers into Ethiopian territory. He emphasized that Ethiopia reserves the right to defend itself against what he called a "full-scale attack".

Eritrea previously rejected the reports of its forces entering Ethiopia and said that the Ethiopian government is trying to justify the start of the war through these claims.
