Rubio: Iran has lost full control over the Strait of Hormuz and its economy is in free fall

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said on Wednesday, October 7, that Iran has lost its "total control over the Strait of Hormuz" and the country's economy is in a state of "total free fall" as a result of severe US sanctions.

Rubio, who spoke in Athens and at a joint press conference with Greek Foreign Minister George Graphteritis, said of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz: "The Strait of Hormuz is open." Now, the oil is flowing almost as it was before the collision began. That's why they lost complete control over the strait."

The US Secretary of State also emphasized that Iran needs to obtain nuclear weapons. He said that Tehran had lost several opportunities to reach an agreement with the United States regarding its nuclear program. Rubio added that Iran today has become "much weaker" compared to the past and is facing "crippling sanctions". According to him, Iran's economy is on the verge of entering a situation that only a few countries in the world have experienced.
