Following the continued widespread interception of students in France, French President Emmanuel Macron held an emergency meeting on the evening of Tuesday, October 6, 2026 to review the situation. This meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Januel Barro, Minister of the Interior Laurent Nunes and Minister of Education Edouard Geoffrey.

Emmanuel Macron did not directly intervene in the management of student interception before.

The peak of the interceptions was on October 6, 2026. According to the organizers, about 450,000 people took to the streets across France and 100,000 in Paris. However, the Ministry of the Interior announced that the number of demonstrators is 256,000 throughout the country and 56,000 in Paris.

In several cities another clash occurred between the protesters and the police forces. During these clashes, the protesters threw firecrackers and the police used tear gas to disperse them. Some of the young people also created obstacles in the streets and set them on fire.
