The number of applications for conscientious objection has tripled in Germany. This number has doubled in the last two months. The security tensions and the new military service law are possible reasons for this increase.

The number of conscientious objectors in Germany is still increasing.

The media of the Funke Group and the German Editorial Network, citing the spokesperson of the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society (BAFzA), reported that from January to the end of August of this year, 12,102 requests for refusal of military service were submitted to this office.

According to the announcement of the Department of Family Affairs and Civil Society, only 3,879 refusal requests were registered in the entire year 2025, and this number reached 2,249 cases in the previous year. In this way, the number of requests to refuse military service is now three times the number of 2025.
