Transfer of 17 Iranian prisoners from the United Arab Emirates to Iran

The Iranian authorities announced the transfer of 17 Iranian citizens imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates to the country. According to Askar Jalalian, deputy for human rights and international affairs at the Ministry of Justice and head of the committee for the transfer of convicts, these people include 14 men and three women. The process of transferring other Iranian prisoners in the UAE is also ongoing, he said.

Jalalian said, this transfer was made as a result of legal, political and security consultation between the two countries. Ismail Bakai, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, also said that the issue of the release of these prisoners was being followed up on the sidelines of the meeting of the UN General Assembly with senior officials of the Emirates.
