Martin Jaeger, head of the German Foreign Intelligence Service (BND), seriously assesses the risk of a violent conflict between Germany and Russia.

In public discussions before the Parliamentary Oversight Committee of the German Parliament (Bundestag), Jaeger said: "Our confrontation with Russia has entered a new and more dangerous phase: Germany is at risk of being drawn into a violent conflict with Russia."

He added: "The attempt to carry out a ground attack in Leipzig is only one example of this situation: currently there is no such direct, widespread and clear threat against Germany from any other country."
