🔶 Martes in Kyiv: Helping Ukraine is in line with Germany's own interests
During his unexpected visit to Kyiv, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz defended his country's continued support for Ukraine, saying that this aid, especially this year and before winter, "is deeply compatible with Germany's own national interests."
Referring to the daily Russian Internet attacks against German data centers and communications networks, the German chancellor said that cutting off aid to Ukraine would not end these attacks and might even increase their intensity.
During that trip, Mertes promised 1 billion euros in military aid and 350 million euros to Ukraine's energy sector.
According to government sources, part of the military assistance will include the supply of thousands of interceptor drones and the development of long-range weapons production.
During Mertes' trip, drone ground attack warnings were issued several times.
