🔶 New law in Germany for additional protection for victims of domestic violence
The German government plans to change the law to make it easier for victims of domestic violence to leave joint tenancy agreements with the violent person.
According to the proposal of Stefanie Hobig, the Minister of Justice of Germany, the victims, mostly women, can also ask the violent person to pay for the rent and other housing expenses after they leave.
According to police statistics, in 2024, nearly 266,000 people were victims of domestic violence in Germany, and about 70% of them were women and girls.
In Germany, any type of physical, mental, financial and emotional violence that is used within the walls of the home is called domestic violence.
Germany's Ministry of Justice says the true number of domestic violence is probably much higher, as many cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police.
