🔶 Russian drone ground attack on Kiev's important bridge; widespread traffic disruption
Russian drone attacks on Kiev on Friday morning, October 2 (October 10) disrupted traffic in parts of the Ukrainian capital and prompted city officials to block a number of bridges over the Dnieper River.
Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, announced that a drone hit the "South Bridge"; the bridge is one of the most important communication routes between the two sides of the Ukrainian capital.
Following these attacks, another bridge was completely closed and another bridge was partially closed, although no reports of drone strikes on these two bridges were published.
The South Bridge is not just a road for cars. Metro lines also run on this bridge and there are three car lanes.
This bridge connects the two banks of the Dnieper River, and for this reason, it is one of the important traffic axes in Kiev.
Disruption in such a route quickly showed its effect on the streets of the capital on Friday morning. The closure of the bridges in the morning hours caused long queues of cars in Kiev and residents had to choose other ways in the city to reach their destination.

The South Bridge and the Paton Bridge, two main routes used by the residents of the southern part of Kiev, were among the bridges where traffic restrictions were imposed.
Videos posted on social media showed people crossing the bridge on foot where car and tram traffic had stopped.
These restrictions particularly affected the lives of the residents of the east bank of the Dnieper River. According to witnesses, the authorities allowed traffic on the bridges again around noon. The Russian Ministry of Defense also announced the drone attacks on a road and rail bridge, which according to the ministry is important for Ukraine's military supplies.
Also, the ministry announced that a power plant in western Kiev was targeted.
The submitted report does not state whether the bridge mentioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense is the same as the South Bridge of Kiev or not.
This was not the first ground attack on the South Bridge in recent days. A day earlier, drones hit this bridge.
Klitschko said that Thursday's attacks damaged parts of a bridge pier, guardrail, road surface and concrete barrier protecting the subway.
