🔶 Hostages: Killed Hamas commander was responsible for holding several hostages
The Israeli military announced that Ezzeldin al-Baid, the commander of the North Gaza Brigade, who was killed on Tuesday, September 29, in the Israeli ground offensive in Gaza City, was responsible for holding several hostages in Israel.
IDF captors say that following extensive intelligence investigations, it was determined that Al-Baid oversaw the holding of several hostages. Mia Schem, Hisham al-Sayed, Amit Buskila, Shani Louk, and several other hostages were among the individuals under his responsibility, according to the IDF.
According to the Israeli military and Hamas, Al-Baid assumed command of this brigade in November 2023 after Ahmed Ghandour, the former commander of the North Gaza Brigade, was killed. Prior to that, he was the intelligence commander of the North Gaza Brigade and the commander of the West Jabalia Battalion. The Israeli military also claimed that Al-Baid was involved in these roles in planning and financing attacks against Israeli captives and was one of the founders of Hamas's "Nukhba" elite forces in northern Gaza.
According to Israeli military data, Al-Baid also participated in the ground attack on Israeli captives on October 7, 2023, and played a role in the entry of Hamas forces into Israeli territory.
