The German Army is establishing its first special drone battalion
In response to the experience of the war in Ukraine, the German army established a special drone battalion for the first time; A unit that will start its activity with about 300 soldiers and should eventually reach 600 soldiers.
In this regard, Boris Pistorius, the Minister of Defense of Germany, announced this plan on Thursday, October 1 (October 9) during his visit to the military training area of Bergen in the state of Lower Saxony.
According to the German army's plan, the establishment of this battalion will begin in 2027.
The war in Ukraine played a decisive role in the German army's decision to establish this unit. In this war, a large part of the devastating attacks are carried out using drones, and now the German army wants to consider this experience in the structure of its forces.
Pointing out the importance of unmanned systems in ground warfare, Pistorius said: "Anyone who wants to be superior in ground warfare must master warfare with unmanned systems."
