Axios: Rubio demanded Iraq leave New York "immediately".
Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing a US official and a knowledgeable source, reported that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded the Iranian delegation headed by Abbas Araghchi leave New York "immediately" on Monday, September 28 (October 6).
According to Axios, this decision was made after Qatar's efforts to bring the positions of Tehran and Washington closer together did not achieve significant progress.
A US official said that at Rubio's direction, the US representative to the UN delivered the departure message to the Iranian delegation that evening. He told Axios: "Rubio kicked out the Iranian delegation, which stayed too long as our guest. The UN General Assembly is over and it's time for them to leave."
The Iranian delegation, including Abbas Araghchi, left for the airport a few hours later and departed New York for Doha at 01:20 on Tuesday. However, Axios' second source, while confirming the US request for the Iranian delegation's departure, said that Araghchi's trip from New York was already planned for Monday night.
