Hegseth following the large-scale firing of top U.S. military commanders

According to media reports, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth plans to fire more U.S. military generals and admirals.

The "Washington Post" newspaper and the television channels "Fox News" and "IBC News" reported that the Pentagon chief plans to announce his new plans to restructure the U.S. military's top command on Wednesday, September 30 (October 8) in a speech at the "Quantico" military base south of Washington.

According to this plan, the number of senior officers in the military is supposed to drop by 20%; a figure that is twice the amount previously predicted.

According to the Washington Post, these reductions could disrupt the career paths of additional soldiers "after numerous firings and the prevention of promotions." According to the report, women and Black Americans in particular may be subject to these cuts. Since taking office at the start of Donald Trump's second term, Hegseth has replaced a large number of senior military officials.

He fired Charles Brown, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations, without cause, just days before the start of the war in Iran in late February.

During Hegseth's tenure, several other top U.S. military officials retired or submitted their resignations; including Dan Driscoll, U.S. Secretary of the Army, who resigned in early September following frequent clashes with Hegseth.
