🔶 Macron's warning regarding the growing dependence of European industries on China

French President Emmanuel Macron called to strengthen measures to protect European trade and increase investments, warning that dependence on China and fossil fuels threatens the continent's competitiveness.

In a speech in Spain on Wednesday, September 30 (October 8), Macron asked Europe to boost innovation, simplify regulations, increase funding, and protect industrial producers from unfair competition.

In another part of his speech, the French President said: "China has completely saturated the European market. For decades we have been telling ourselves: great, China is a huge market for us Europeans. We need China. That's true. 'We transferred a lot of technology, we sold a lot, and we still do to some extent.' At the same time, he accused China of "heavily subsidizing companies and dumping to eliminate competitors," saying: "Today, as we speak, we Europeans have a trade deficit of one billion euros with China every day."

Macron further called for accelerating the European Commission's investigation, strengthening trade defense tools, and setting requirements to ensure imported products meet the same standards imposed on European producers. Addressing the energy issue, he also warned that decarbonization "has not eliminated Europe's vulnerability."
