According to reports, the plan to establish a migrant deportation center in Africa for migrants whose applications have been rejected by the European Union has taken a more concrete form. Thanos Pleuris, Greece's immigration minister, said an agreement had been reached on a country, but he could not reveal its name yet.

Greece will preside over the Council of the European Union for six months from July 2027. On Monday, September 28 (October 6), Pleuris told the Greek TV channel ANT1: "We believe that during the Greek presidency, the necessary conditions will be provided for the deportation center to start its activities."

It is not yet clear whether the selected country agreed to this plan and to what extent this choice was coordinated with other EU countries.
