US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview with Fox News on Monday evening, October 6 (September 28), listing the dangers of the Islamic Republic acquiring nuclear weapons: "If Iran had nuclear weapons with which it could threaten its neighbors and the world, no one could do anything about the straits. They could control the straits, collect tolls, and decide who has access to energy and who does not."

In another part of his statement, the US Secretary of State added: "What Iran wanted to do was to accumulate so much conventional weaponry—meaning so many drones, so many rockets, and so many missiles—that no one could really touch them. They would be protected. And behind this shield, behind this conventional shield of weapons used to threaten the entire region, our forces, and even Europe, they would then make the leap to acquiring nuclear weapons."
