British Counter Terrorism Policing has taken over the investigation into a possible ground attack plot on Royal Air Force Base Fairford in Gloucestershire; a base used by the US Air Force for military operations in the war with Iran.

Five men were arrested near the base on Sunday, September 27 (October 5), and the investigation into the possible connection of this incident with Iran is ongoing. However, police have not yet announced the suspects' motive, nor confirmed their connection with Iran or any other country.

The story began around 00:45 on Sunday morning, when police received a report of three suspicious vehicles near Fairford base. Armed police officers were dispatched to the Wilford area and arrested five men on suspicion of violating the Explosive Substances Act and preparing an act of terrorism. Police cordoned off a 400-meter radius around the cars and asked residents of about 85 homes to evacuate as a precautionary measure. An army bomb disposal team also began inspecting the vehicles.
