Saudi Arabia's foreign minister traveled to Washington to meet with Rubio

Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, arrived in Washington on Monday, September 28, to talk with Marco Rubio, his American counterpart. According to the Saudi state news agency, the two sides will discuss relations between Riyadh and Washington as well as regional and international developments at this meeting.

The Saudi Foreign Minister's visit to America takes place in a situation where the conflicts between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen have intensified in recent weeks.

In early September, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly called for US military aid to the country to deal with the Houthis in a phone call with Donald Trump. This request was not accepted by Washington and the US instead agreed to provide information and support in determining the targets of the strikes. The New York Times previously reported that Trump asked the Pentagon to prepare for airstrikes against the Houthis after speaking with bin Salman, but he backed away from that decision a day later. US officials told this newspaper that there is no US ground attack against the Houthis.
