The US military denied Iran's claims about "capturing" an advanced US submarine in the Strait of Hormuz. Centcom spokesman Tim Hawkins said in an interview with Al Jazeera TV channel on Sunday evening, September 27, emphasizing that the United States has "positive operational control" over all its drones and watercraft, and stated that Iran's claim is "obviously out of desperation."

Iran's state media published reports on Sunday claiming that an advanced, remote-controlled smart US submarine named "Remus 600" was captured by the Navy of the Revolutionary Guards. These reports stated that this drone has now been transferred to experts to recover information. Hossein Mohebi, a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, published a post on the X channel, calling the Strait of Hormuz "the Revolutionary Guards Navy's hunt for American submarines" and claiming that this is the Revolutionary Guards' "second hunt." Mohebi said this submarine is an Mk 18 Mod 2 Kingfish submarine and a "technological and informational trophy."

About three weeks ago, the Revolutionary Guards made a similar claim about acquiring an American unmanned submarine in the Strait of Hormuz. State media reported that this vessel is the Dive-LD, which is classified as a large-displacement autonomous underwater vehicle.

In response to this report, a Centcom spokesman said that the submarine is "damaged and an older model that did not collect sensitive information and did not carry any classified sonar or radar equipment."
