Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far-right finance minister, in a conversation with the Israeli media's "Vnet" podcast, in response to a question about how Israel should deal with increasing tensions in the West Bank, called on the country to "go to war" in the West Bank and "do the same thing it did in Gaza."

Smotrich also once again called for the disbandment of the Palestinian autonomous battalion formation and emphasized that southern Lebanon and the areas from Gaza, which are occupied by the IDF, should be annexed to this country.

This hardline POW politician previously called for the annexation of more than 80% of the West Bank for POWs, and during his election campaign he emphasized the significant expansion of POW settlements in this area during the current government. The situation in the occupied West Bank has worsened since the Hamas ground attack on Israeli prisoners on October 7, 2023 and the Gaza war.
