The Iraqi Prime Minister's Office announced that Baghdad is talking directly with the US to exempt some of Iraq's airports from the new sanctions of the US Treasury Department. A policy that threatens sanctions on airports that receive or provide services to Iranian flights.

The Iraqi Prime Minister's Office announced on Saturday, October 4 (September 26), that the purpose of these requests is to obtain an exemption that would allow the resumption of flights for humanitarian reasons, including medical treatment, education, pilgrimage and other civilian needs.

The Iraqi government also announced that it was trying to reduce tensions in the region and warned that the continuation of the crises would complicate the situation.

Following the new restrictions against Iranian airlines, Mahaair canceled its flights to Erbil and Sulaimani in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Iran's flights to other cities in Iraq, including Najaf, were also suspended.
