The President of the United States Donald Trump officially invited the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to participate in the G20 meeting. This invitation was presented by Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The US government's argument is that the dialogue should continue even with difficult partners.

The G20 meeting is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida in December. The European Union is a full member of the Group of 20, and in addition, some EU member states such as Germany, France and Italy are also present individually at this meeting.

In response to Trump's action and the possibility of Putin's presence, the EU spokesman said that Russia is still a member of the Group of 20 and has the right to participate in these meetings. He added that the European Union will use such meetings to condemn Russia's widespread war against Ukraine, regardless of who is present at the meeting.
