Colombia severed diplomatic relations with Iran

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia has announced the end of diplomatic relations between this country and the Republic of Salami. "Security concerns, Tehran's connections with assassination groups, human rights violations and the actions of the Iranian government in the area and the nuclear site" are among the reasons given to Colombia for this decision.

On Thursday, September 24 (October 2), this office also announced in a statement that the official break in relations has been effective since September 19 (September 28), but consular relations between the two countries will continue.

The Colombian government saw this decision in line with "the principles of its foreign policy in the field of national security, hemispheric security and the fight against transnational crimes". In this statement, without providing evidence, Bogata claimed that there were links between the Republic of Salami and international assassination groups and assassination groups linked to the drug trade that threaten Colombia's security.
