The Reuters news agency reported on Thursday, September 25 (October 3) the meeting and consultation between the foreign ministers of Iran and Russia, Iraqi Abbas and Sergey Lavrov. This meeting was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

According to this report, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Lavrov and Iraqi emphasized the need for a diplomatic solution to the crisis caused by the war between the US and the captives of Israel against the Islamic Republic and stated that there is no alternative to a diplomatic solution.

According to a statement from this ministry, the foreign ministers of Iran and Russia called the actions of America and the Israeli captives "illegal" in their consultation.

Massoud Pezhkian and Vladimir Putin, the presidents of Iran and Russia, signed a strategic partnership agreement in 2025. This agreement envisages and intends closer security cooperation, but it does not include the commitment to mutual defense.
