Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the US is an opportunity for US President Donald Trump to discuss many international issues with his Chinese counterpart.

When Donald Trump talks about Xi Jinping, he almost always has a positive tone. Shortly before the start of this official visit, the American president said: "We have a good relationship, things are going very well with China, and President Xi and I have a good relationship."

The importance Trump attaches to this meeting was clear from the moment Xi Jinping arrived. Trump personally greeted Xi on the runway at Joint Base Andrews near Washington.

"This is very unusual," Edgard Kagan of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington told a German national television reporter in Washington. Normally, the President of the United States greets a senior foreign official only when he enters the White House.
