Section 15 of the constitution, after establishing Persian as "the official and common language and script of the people in Iran", declared the use of local and ethnic languages in the media and "the teaching of their literature in schools, alongside the Persian language".

However, almost 47 years after the adoption of the constitution, this principle has not yet become regular and national programs in schools, and several generations of Turkish, Kurdish, Baluch, Arab, Turkmen and other communities have gone through school without the possibility of formal and comprehensive education in their mother tongue and literature.

In an interview with DW, three experts discussed the reasons for the continuation of this situation, its consequences for children and the possibility of progressing towards multilingual education from historical, political and linguistic angles.
