A Turkish-German aid worker was sentenced to ten years in prison in Iran

Sarkan Eran, founder of the Stuttgart aid organization STELP, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Iran.

According to this aid organization, Eran was convicted on the charge of "communication with a hostile state".

This 42-year-old operative traveled to Iran on July 3, 1404, and planned to distribute aid donated from Germany and leave Iran on that date. Since then, Erin's family has lost contact with him.

Before the trip, Eran said in an interview with the local German Channel One (SWR): "To avoid misunderstandings and accusations, I do not have any security or communication tools such as a satellite phone, a bulletproof vest or a Yemeni helmet, and I will enter Iran with a simple backpack."

The aid organization STELP called the court's verdict against Eran "shocking" and wrote in a statement: "This punishment and especially the amount of the punishment are disproportionate to the circumstances and facts of the case."
