A senior Iranian official told Reuters news agency on Tuesday, September 22 (31 Shahrivar) that Tehran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if US military pressure is eased and the embargo on Iranian ports is lifted.

This senior Iranian official said: "The US should formally announce that it is ready to resolve the issue diplomatically and then agree on a timetable on how to proceed with this process."

He added that the Iranian delegation is present at the UN General Assembly in New York and has full powers to revive diplomacy with the United States.

The official also told Reuters that Iranian President Massoud Pazhkian, who left Tehran for New York on Tuesday morning, would not meet with US President Donald Trump at UN headquarters.
