Majed Akhavan, spokesman for the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization, told the Ilana news agency on Monday, September 30, that the American sanctions did not stop foreign flights and except for the cancellation of flights by one of the Mahan airlines to certain destinations such as Muscat, Istanbul and Ankara, the activities of other airlines "are still normal".

He called the suspension of flights to Turkey false news and said: "Such an issue is not true and foreign flights of other airlines are still maintained."

These statements were made while Abuzar Shiroudi, the head of the aviation organization, said the day before in an interview with "Economist World" that currently no foreign airline operates in Iran and only an "Iraqi" airline flies to Iran. Referring to the cancellation of Mahan flights to Turkey and Oman, he said that after the American sanctions on Iran's aviation industry came into effect on September 22, the countries' performance in complying with these sanctions depends on their "current policies and methods".
