The parliamentary elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern began on Sunday, September 20 (September 29) at eight in the morning. The competition is expected to be very close in both countries. According to the polls, the Left Party and the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) lead in Berlin and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

In the eastern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, about 1.3 million people are eligible to vote, and for the first time 16 and 17-year-olds can also vote. This country is currently run by a coalition of social democratic and leftist parties.
