The German general became the head of NATO's military commission

General Carsten Breuer, the most senior German military official, has been elected head of NATO's North Atlantic Military Commission.

On Saturday, September 19 (September 28), Brewer was chosen as the successor of Admiral Giuseppe Cabo of Italy at a meeting of this committee in Copenhagen. After his election, he said, NATO is facing serious tasks and the issue is to ensure security and peace in Europe and beyond.

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes saw Breuer's election as a sign of Germany's acceptance of greater responsibility in NATO.

Boris Pistorius, Germany's defense minister, also pointed to the Russian threat and emphasized the need to adopt a clear path in NATO.

The head of the military committee is the most important military adviser to the NATO Secretary-General and conveys the recommendations of the senior military commanders of the member states to the political institutions of this alliance.

Since March 2023, Breuer is the Inspector General of the German Army and the highest ranking military officer in that country.
